Can I mix clumping and non-clumping litter?

We do not recommend mixing our bentonite litter with non-clumping litter as this will affect the clumping properties.

What are the ingredients of our bentonite litter?

Our bentonite litter is made from natural sodium bentonite clay. This type of bentonite does not contain any added soda ash. It has a completely natural clumping ability. It contains a fragrance that is made from natural ingredients and is not harmful to cats or cat owners. Activated charcoal is used to increase the ability to absorb bad odours.

What makes our bentonite litter different from other cat litters?

We only use high quality sodium bentonite from cotrolled quarries to make our litter. Every year we carefully select the best clays to use in our bentonite litter. Sodium bentonite is a 100% natural clay that immediately clumps when it reacts with water, forming strong lumps that are easy to shovel. As the clumps are solid, the litter tray stays clean after scooping. Our litters are made of fine granules that are gentle on paws and also suitable for kittens. We know that dust in cat litter can sometimes be a problem for cats and cat owners. That's why our litters are virtually dust-free thanks to their special manufacturing process. They absorb liquids very quickly and trap bad odours inside. They do not need perfume as they bind ammonia very well and added perfume can irritate sensitive cats. Of course, our litters have a high ability to absorb bad odours and ammonia. Nevertheless, we haven't forgotten about perfume lovers; if needed, you can also find lightly perfumed varieties such as Professional Classic with baby powder scent. Our fragrances used are natural and safe for cats and cat owners. 

What should I do if my cat doesn't use the bentonite litter?

If you have recently switched to a bentonite litter, your cat may need a little time to get used to it. This is the case with any litter. You can ease the transition for your cat by mixing some of the new litter with some of the old litter for a few days to a week. After a week, empty the litter box completely and refill it only with our Bentonite Litter. 

I recently switched to a bentonite litter and it's not working. What am I doing wrong?

There are a few explanations for this. Our litter is made of natural bentonite and its main property is to clump when used effectively. Unlike other types of clay litter, with our litter the litter tray must be completely full. Otherwise, the strong minerals in the litter can stick to the bottom and sides of the litter tray, making scooping difficult. When you fill the litter tray for the first time, make sure that there is 8-9 cm of litter in the litter tray. This initial filling may require 8-9 kg of litter or more. Secondly, fresh litter must be added to the litter tray each time clumps are removed from the litter tray, as too little litter will hinder clumping. Finally, do not mix non-clumping litter with our bentonite litter as this will also hinder clumping.

The cat litter does not seem to absorb urine optimally. What could be the reason?

All of our cat litters have proven to be extremely effective at absorbing liquids. To ensure that the product works optimally, follow the instructions for use on the package and ensure an adequate filling height of at least 8-9 cm. Remove your cat's faeces daily and change the entire litter tray as needed. If possible, use one litter tray per cat. Place the litter tray in an open, well-ventilated area. 

The litter does not bind odours optimally? What could be the reason?

Our cat litters have proven to be extremely effective at binding ammonia. To ensure that the product works optimally, follow the instructions for use on the package for an appropriate filling height of at least 8-9 cm. If the litter tray is filled with a lower amount, residues may stick to the bottom or sides of the litter tray, which is the main reason for bad odours. Fill the entire litter tray with litter, smaller amounts will affect odour control. Use one litter tray per cat if possible. Place the litter tray in an open, well ventilated area.

The litter I bought seems to be lumpy. What could be the reason for this?

Our high quality control standards ensure that our litter products are packed dry. However, once the product leaves our warehouses, we cannot control the storage methods used by others. The products can absorb moisture and clump if stored in a damp place in the shops or in your home. To prevent clumping after purchase, store your cat litter in a cool, dry place.

The litter I bought seems to be dusty. Can I still use it?

Does our bentonite litter have a strong smell?

We stock litter with and without fragrance. All contents used are for cat litter and are safe for your cat. There are no chemicals that are harmful to cats.

I don't want to use scented litter. What should I buy?

There is no difference in performance between our scented and unscented litter. Our bentonite has naturally high ammonia retention and works well without perfume.

Are there any health concerns for people who come into contact with bentonite litter?

Although there are no health risks from unused litter, pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals should avoid handling used cat litter. Toxoplasmosis, a disease characterised by cold or flu-like symptoms, can be transmitted through cat faeces. It is particularly dangerous in pregnant women as it can cause birth defects. Is our bentonite cat litter biodegradable?

No. Like most cat litters, our bentonite litter is made primarily of clay, a natural but non-biodegradable mineral found in the earth. Bentonite is not biodegradable, but is compatible with most landfill requirements.

Is ingesting bentonite dangerous to cats or other pets?

Our litter is not known to be harmful to animals, including kittens, if ingested in small quantities. However, if a pet eats a large amount of a litter (e.g. a bowl full), we recommend that you consult a veterinarian.

Is handling unused litter a concern for pregnant women?

Unused cat litter is safe for pregnant women to handle. However, pregnant women should avoid handling used cat litter. Toxoplasmosis, a disease characterised by cold or flu-like symptoms, can be transmitted through cat faeces. This is a serious problem especially for pregnant women, as it can lead to birth defects. Will my cats notice the difference if I change the litter?

Cats are sensitive animals and may react to the change, especially if you change to a different colour or from absorbent to clumping litter. This is quite normal. The only thing you need to do is ease the transition and give your cat time to adjust. Support your cat by mixing half of the new litter with the old litter over a few days.
