Winter pelage - Support for your cat's coat change

Spring is approaching, and so does the change of coat on your baby tiger. Twice a year there is a change of the entire coat. The cat changes from summer to winter coat or vice versa. In a large part, the cat's winter coat consists of an isolating under wool, which keeps the cat cosily warm in the cold winter months. The lightweight summer coat, on the other hand, protects the cat against the heat and high UV radiation of the sun. Did you know already? The old coat of your cat makes up 12 till 24 percent of the total body weight!

A coat change can be quite annoying due to the high amount of lost hair. In general, the change is more pronounced in free-range cats than in domestic cats, since domestic cats are not exposed to major temperature fluctuations and the artificial lamplights simulate longer day times even in the winter month. These factors affect the organism and irritate it so much that some domestic cats have an increased hair loss all year long.

In the following article, you will receive important tips on the "hairy" topic and learn how you can best support your cat during their coat change:

Regular brushing

Regular brushing performs miracles. Brush always in the direction of growth of the coat, this will remove the loose undercoat, while the brushing promotes healthy blood circulation in the skin. Furthermore, less hair is swallowed by your cat during its fur care. This protects your cat's stomach against indigestible hair balls. Above all, your couch and cushions won't be covered with lost cat hair.

Add oil to the food

It is very helpful to add oil to the feed of your cat. The unsaturated fatty acids promote the hair growth and have a positive effect on the digestive tract when swallowed hair is defecated. Most suitable oils are, for example, linseed, salmon or olive oil.

In our range, a particularly useful product that supports the natural change of coat is Kitty's Cream - salmon. A delicious creamy snack for your cat with fine and natural salmon oil. The natural fatty acids omega-6 and omega-3 also promote a healthy skin and shiny coat. The perfect feed supplement to support hair growth.

Anyone who owns a cat and keeps it in the house will be easily irritated in the time of the coat change. Only one thing helps here: patience. Always remember, after a few weeks, the annoying change of coat will be completed. Until then, only a good vacuum cleaner and nerves of steel provide remedy.
